Spare Thought Spare Change

Written Proposal

Spare thought spare change is a pair of drop boxes that would be located at the South Entrance of the UWB campus on the walkway between the UW1 and UW2 building.  The drop boxes will be approximately 24 inches in height, 12 inches in width, and 18 inches in length made from stainless steel sheets. The posts will be approximately 48 inches in height with a width and length of 4 inches made from aluminum. The main concept of this piece is to be appreciative of what you have and spare what you can.

Artist’s Statement

There have been plenty of times where I have walked across a homeless person and have had nothing to give them. Every time that has happened I stumble upon a feeling of guilt even if I have done nothing wrong. The goal of my piece is to help people understand how well off they are and to encourage people to give what they can and/or look for something that they are thankful for. A lot of people in college are stressed out from exams, projects, and papers that they don’t take the time realize how good they have it even if they are tired from their studies.
